Work from Home Securely with VPN

Secure Way to Work from Home

We are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic which makes it hard to work from a brick-and-mortar office. But as writers we have an alternative: we can work through a VPN, or Virtual Private Network.

Confidentiality and proprietary rights sometimes emerge as obstacles for writers to work from home. There are companies that do not want to send their copyrighted and proprietary materials over the public Internet for security reasons.

My Experience

VPN addresses those concerns. Late last year I did have a private client who had exactly the same concerns but they had a VPN. I simply downloaded their VPN software. They gave me a User ID and Password to log into their corporate VPN. And the rest was easy peasy. I worked comfortably just as though I was working in their office.

So, if you are looking for work as a writer, you can ask your potential client or employer if they have a VPN for you to use. Most companies these days do. Once you log in to their system through VPN you can exchange messages and materials securely.

Top 4 VPNs

You can also use a VPN for your own personal use as well since a VPN enables you to remain anonymous and secure online, according to C|NET. Here are the top 4 VPN software that C|NET recommends:

  • ExpressVPN
  • Surfshark
  • NordVPN
  • IPVanish

Write tight. Stay bright. Serve right.
